Sunday, 1 August Our flight back from Luxor to Cairo was thankfully uneventful. Our plan was to get from the airport to the main train station called Ramses station and take the train to Alexandria. The cab driver once again was not happy and complained bitterly about the low tip. He gave us reproaching looks but I was not having it. I had it with their stupid complaints about the baksheesh and walked off. I was done. One more fight about the price of something and I was about to explode. Fantasies of life sized water shot guns came into my mind cleaning the streets by flushing them. Anyway, we marched off to the station and managed to find all the counters and platforms we needed to find and after 3 hours arrived in Alexandria. It was not easy to find a place to stay because almost everything was booked out because all the Cairoeans were on vacation in Alexandria fleeing the heat in Cairo during the summer. I don't know but for me it felt worse because Alexandria is also very humid. Since I badly wanted to eat fish we were recommended to eat in the Kadouli on the Corniche, apparently the best place to eat fresh fish. After a nice walk of 20 minutes we arrived at the place and I was immediately reminded of the fish restaurants in Turkey. The interior is usually quite shabby but you can choose your fresh fish, point your finger to the ones you want to have and then tell them the way you want it to be done. We went for grilled. They charge by weight and also give you some mezzes. Absolutely delicious.
