Saturday, 31 July Today we took the minibus to Karnak Temple which is the biggest and holiest of them all. Karnak is the largest religious site in the world and around 30 Pharaohs tried to leave their mark. Each of them was eager to build a temple, wall, statue, chapel or any other building. It was constantly redone over a period of 1500 years. It was also the most important place of worship because here lived Amun-Ra on earth surrounded by his wife Mut and their son Khonsu. The most famous part for tourists is the Hypostyle Hall with its 134 columns in 16 rows build by Ramses II. Queen Hatshepsut had build the tallest obelisk of 29 meters. I didn't feel well today and barely managed the temple. I schlepped myself around in the burning heat but couldn't take it in as I would have wanted to. Sadly we had to skip the Luxor Museum because of that and went straight to our favorite sandwich place in the city center with view on Luxor Temple which somewhat reminded me of the Pizza Hut looking at the Sphinx.
